Google Chrome flagging plugin downloads

Google Chrome flagged the plugin as harm. Meaning, people with Chrome cannot download the latest Sign Artist Patch. ( screenshot is dutch )

i would like to correct this message. This affected all plugin downloads... ( topic should be moved to support or offtopic )

Temp solution for those having the same issues would be or using a different browser or disabling the scan option of possible harmful files through your google chrome settings > privacy > downloads.

Recently I guess after the latest chrome update whenever it was noticed a weird problem with downloading plugins from uMod. When trying to download plugin on my chrome downloads bar I see the file and say - "This file might be dangerous, bla bla bla." (not sure if chrome changed something or Nah) but now can't even click the ^ and select keep it. Have to go from the 3 dots and open the downloads tab and then click save and chrome says If you downloaded before, now this site is unsafe (dangerous, might be hacked) and I keep it at the end but you know. I am not worried about the website, it looks safe and legit, just its uncomfortable to do this for every download. In other websites downloading plugins for rust .cs files do not gives this warning and instantly do download the files. Not sure what's wrong but hope can be fixed if its on my end or uMod end idk.

I am using latest Chrome and don't have this issue with almost any file. Are you sure you haven't accidentally enabled Windows Defender or something equally as retarded?

Merged post

Chrome is up to date
Version 95.0.4638.69 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Nope, my PC is secured under ESET Antivirus and the defender should be not enabled cuz ESET handle over it or it's running like default in the background without any new restrictions enabled from me. Idk what can be the issue here...

Chrome has done this before, but I don't think there is anything we can do about it. It generally doesn't it for downloads when it a file isn't widely recognized or isn't served over an https connection.

You can disable that functionality in Chrome or use an alternative browser for the time being while we look into it.

How I can disable this? I am not like the people downloading everything on sight and clicking links like crazy. If I download something I know its trusted so if you tell me how to remove this sh*t would be good. Thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks Wulf

I'm now using edge for now. I know why this happens. It's a new policy slowly being rolled out. Autodesk, nexus, and other websites had similar problems. They however have fixed it somehow.

Google protects users from insecure downloads in Google Chrome.
Google is rolling out gradual changes to the Google Chrome browser to block mixed-content rendering and mixed-content downloads.
Starting in January 2021, Google blocks HTTP file downloads of images, docs, and PDFs from HTTPS sites by default

As the files are script-related, would it be an idea to chuck them in a .zip and offer them like that as a download? There are reports of this as well, but it would be easier to resolve the .cs files directly as its script related.

Downloading plugins as a zip would break any tools that download plugins directly, which means many hosts, updating tools, etc. and shouldn't be a neccesssry change. That would only apply to http downloads too, which we serve via https.

Do not change to zip Wulf cuz yeah will break a lot of websites using to auto-download stuff from uMod.org but also a solution with the chrome setting in privacy is meh. When I checked the options I can stay secure or disable security but this applies not only to downloads but for websites too
I prefer for now to have security enabled because if disable to download files more easy Chrome won't detect bad websites I guess... : (

Definitely not a recommended thing to do with disabling it; alternative browser may be better until the issue is resolved.

scared for a few extra seconds to unpack? 🤔

@wulff, I actually think it's possible using zip files, and the best solution is to go with zip files. They don't have to be pre-compressed, you can also define the download if downloaded from the website, pack it up, or else, direct download if downloaded with the system or you could add a second download button as an additional mirror for those interested to download the files in a compressed zip.

Been digging into this stuff for a while now, google however itself states I would have to contact my internet provider. When I called them, they were like "derp" Uhm? no? so in the end, I'm back to square one.

( i have also done a false flag report, I should get an email about this within 48H. )

It seems to have been resolved via Google review, so no longer an issue.
