Server not listed, sometimes freezes
hello guys.
Right now my server has two problems.
First, players can connect my server through client.connect ip:port, but my server isn’t showing in the server list.
Second, once in awhile players get kicked due to packets flooding: player tick.
For the first one, shouldn’t the server be in the list if it’s connectable which means port was forwarded correctly?
for the second one, I didn’t some research saying it could be a plug-in issue, but I don’t see any warning in my server console, it’s more like all of a sudden the server freezes, then everyone in the server gets kicked.
Please help. If it’s a tough issue, I am wondering if I can hire one of the mods to help me look into my server. Thanks!
Make sure query port is properly forwarded. If players get kicked for player tick, most likely there is some lag on your server (usually you would see something like "Calling hook on plugin .. took .. ms", otherwise FPS change or network issue. Also large buildings can cause lags when they are "changed".
Hello misticos. Thank you very much for replying!
What is a query port? I did have my port forwarding set up correctly that players can join with client.connect if that's what you mean. If not, could you please explain a bit more about it?
For the server, I found out if I don't click on the console, it won't have the issue at all, but when I do click on it and maybe scroll it, it freezes and kicks everyone. Is it normal?
Yes, when you select anything it stops it. Disable Quick Edit under Right Click on CMD - Defaults/Properties - Quick Edit. There are two ports - one for game one for query. Also there is one for companion.
Thanks for reply misticos.
I have server.port 28015, and rcon.port 28016, and currently both are enabled as I can connect to my server via rustadmin. Is there any other port I should open for the server to show up in the list? Thanks!
If youre hosting your own server then also make sure your RUST + app has access to the server

The default port is the game port + 68, or the RCon port + 68, whichever is the larger number.

Default game port 28015  + 68  = 28083    So PORT FORWARD 28083 adjust accordingly for your own setup.
Hello nashslash, thanks for reply.
I opened port 28083 and 28084 and RUST+ should be enabled now.
However, my server still isn't showing up in the server list.
Although I have 28015, 28016, 28083, and 28084 ports open. I have been dealing with this issue for days now, and after googling around, I still haven't found a solution.
R.I.P.
Make sure it is both TCP and UDP

Thanks for replying.
I did open both TCP and UDP, for all the ports above. Is there possibly other reasons causing this? Thank you very much!

check the ports are really open using this tool. your firewall may have blocked them

https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

Hello nashslash, I tried it, and my ports are open, so I am really confused. Players won't be able to join if the ports are closed, right?

make another folder and create another test install on your server and keep it pure vanilla. forward the port and fire up the server and see if it appears in the community section. if its visible then its something to do with your current install.

hey! how can it be that server port needs to be +68? what is this rule and why no guides about that? I believe it can help me because I open my 28015 and 28016 as it was usual for me years ago (I owned server in early rust and rust experimental) and my server now tells me that it can't connect to 28083. So after I googled this port I found this thread. I spent few hours with searching info about why cant I run my server.
Please tell me why this +68 and what is the reason it adding ths number?

it's for the Rust + Companion app to work correctly
Default game port 28015 + 68 = 28083 So PORT FORWARD 28083 adjust accordingly for your own setup.

I saw that article and I couldn't get and still can't get about +68. also to run server I had to forward 28083 but to list it in game search I still had to fotward 28015. so anyways that +68 have no sense :(
