Trouble connecting to my Ubuntu server

Hi,

I'm currently having some trouble connecting to my ubuntu (16.04)  server with LinuxGSM. I have previously owned a server that I stopped for a certain period of time and tried to move the files over to a brand new server. Upon connecting, I received the following error:

"Disconnected: Exception (cs:60597): NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

After I received the error I re-installed the whole server with none of my previous server's files, and with oxide. I received the same error on this brand new server. After this, I wanted to know if it was the server itself or oxide, so I re-installed the server once again, this time without oxide either. Same error.

After researching a bit, people seem to be mentioning incompatibilities with versions and stuff like that, so I made sure everything is updated before trying to connect. Same error, still haven't found a fix.

Here is the "tutorial" I have always used to start up servers: https://linuxgsm.com/lgsm/rustserver/

I'm really hoping I can get my problem fixed with someone's help here.
Thanks in advance.

LGSM is generally pretty reliable. Have you tried connecting to other servers? It may be a problem with your game client. You can also check the rustserver logs in ~/log/console which might shed some light on the problem.

After thinking that I had fixed it, this unfortunately, started happening again.

As you mentioned, @JimDeadlock, it seemed to be client sided, and after restarting Rust I could connect, but every once in a while the same long error appears on the left side of the screen and kicks some of the players out of the server. We can easily reconnect when that happens, but it's still an annoyance.

After restarting today, the same problem has been happening (NullReferenceException) and it's not client sided as no one can join even after restarting Rust. I don't know what to do since it's the very first time it's happening to me, and I never had such a problem when I owned a server around 4 months ago.

I think this is a separate issue. Many of us are experiencing random multi-kicking, my opinion is that it's caused by the Raknet default networking which is on its last legs. I tried the experimental Steam networking option for 6 months and it was flawless until it broke in the last server update. I'm hoping they will make it default sooner rather than later. There are other threads relating to this, start here:

Update on the situation:

Losing hope anything else would help, we changed provider hoping that it would be a problem related to the server itself. It seemed to work at first and we thought that the issue would be based on running the server on debug mode.

Turns out this was not the issue as it has started again. Nothing different happened at all, and, once again, after a map wipe the server got completely messed up.

When this issue happens, the name of the server becomes "Rust", the description disappears, and the players can't connect because of the following errors.

Again, if anyone else has come in contact with the same problem, please let me know if there is any way at all to solve it and what's causing it in the first place.

This doesn't look like an LGSM issue. Given that the issue appears to be related to monument generation, I suggest changing your seed and/or worldsize to exclude that possibility.
