Bot Spawn no longer availableSolved
DonielleI noticed that the Botspawn Plugin is now MIA. Is there anyother plugin that works similar to it? I still have it on my server and it is causing issues with others so I am needing to locate another plugin to take its place.
Other than Human NPC, probably not at this time.
Following the replies to this thread though, it would be NICE to know when something has happened and should be announced rather than having to google and find a thread on it that explains (somewhat) what has happened.
RustIO, BotSpawn, Blueprint manager are three where they suddenly went *poof* without notice
Blueprint manager was without notice until i went to download it again and the "original" config didn't work... it didn't work because the whole plugin was replaced and redone and used a different totally different config file.
I get that to keep continuity, etc the idea of saying "What you devlope is ours" going forward, but to be fair - to change horses in midstream without notifying people & USERS what is happening breeds distrust and honestly doesn't look professional.
Keep in mind when this thread first start we were told that the plugin was removed and that the author wasn't on the site any more and now we have what people might call a more FULL answer.
"Free plugins are likely going to be required to be under open source licenses going forward"
Are likely? Seriously? Not WILL BE? Likely means things like this will happen.
Its about setting expectations and continuing with that. Changing the expectations in midstream isn't what people like and is how we got here.
That or the submission process wasn't up to par and allowed the situation to continue until we arrived at this point.
Again, I get the premise of what you said and I get the logic on continuation... as long as the expectation is set from the beginning - that is best for those who decide to develope under that license and the users know what will happen
With that said, I point back to my original question - how many can we expect to lose once the gauntlet of "We now own your work" is thrown down?
The WE in the above statement is either oxide/umod or the community

anyone like myself who does know where to get the plugin is not able to post that address on this forum either in a post or what is supposed to be "private mail" = pm . as this is not in accordance with what this forum allows and a red warning will come up.

A plugin being entirely removed is a rare circumstance, which has not really happened before. Rust:IO is an entirely difference case, as it was never migrated from the old site due to the author not wanting its source to be shared with anyone; which is what we require as we build all extensions on our site.
Blueprint Manager or any other plugin that takes on a new maintainer generally has previous versions under Updates; but you can share your feedback with the current maintainer should you not like their freely contributed upkeep and continuation of the plugin.

When I say "likely", it generally means that we haven't fully discussed this yet, only briefly in the past. Submissions were not required to have a license in the past, but have been encouraged since the migration to the new site here at umod.org. The majority of older plugins (such as the one this thread is about) were migrated and utilized an entirely different, more limited review process and system.

I can't really answer that yet, but I'm sure we'll make things work for the betterment of the supportive community members and current plugin ecosystem.

For all those people that find it more convenient to bother you with their question than to google it for themselves. I understand and fully agree with the license requirements for free plugins as that will be an improvement for the stability of the community and the continuity of said free plugins.
I do think however, that the full enforcement of the license requirement should have waited until the marketplace was up and running as not to drive away creators and thereby hurt the community and users of plugins that are now gone.
The foundation of the community is ofcourse uMod as that is what makes all this possible, but everything else depends on thriving creators and members that have a reason to be here.
I also understand the rule of not posting links in threads as that could turn into the wild west and there's also some brand protection to keep in mind, but I STRONGLY disagree with the rule of not being able to share links in PM's (messages) wether it be links to servers, things on steam or other places to get plugins etc.
I know it's not actually called private messages, but we're almost in 2020 and this is not Communist China.
If you really want a strong community, at least private messages should be exactly that.., Private !

There is no license requirement or enforcement for existing plugins yet, I'm not sure where you got that idea. The 4 plugins from this author were removed per the author's request, as they did not have a license that would allow them to remain open and available otherwise.
Certain links are blocked sitewide to avoid advertising and third-party promotion; it isn't restricted to private messages. I'm sorry you disagree with this policy, but we appreciate the feedback.

My bad..., I got that impression because of the changed license tab on the plugin pages, and also the various post in this thread that made me believe that the "mentioned" creator was removed beacause he didn't want to follow the open license rules.
I mean, something changed since the creator and the plugins is no longer on the page and I'm confused as to why the creator requested to have the resources and account removed if no rules or guidelines changed on umod yet.
I guess if the creator did not exclusively own all rights to the code or the creator went elsewhere preemptively becuase he would or could not follow the future license rules.
A nice feature would be to have a 24-48 hour notification before a watched resource/plugin is removed.
Anyway, maybe therecould be some uMod info updates for when changes are made to the platform so users aren't in the dark and speculations go wild.
I'm not saying to start a podcast (even though I love podcasts), but maybe a few lines in the Announcement category about changes that affect the community so we feel in the "loop"
I know this might be xtra workload but it might benefit in the long run and might give some useful feedback on a "change by change" basis.
The plugins were removed per the author's request; they can't remain because they do not have an open source license. The comments regarding the author was regarding our forum rules, nothing about the license of the plugins themselves. The author simply did not want to abide by our forum rules and guidelines, so they are no longer here.FuelStream

A plugin being removed like this is a rarity, and isn't really something we can announce as it isn't something we generally have a heads up for. Announcing that a plugin is being removed isn't really going to solve anything either. Plugins that are approved on the site will generally remain forever, either in a downloadable state else tagged as "broken" if they do not work and left for informational purpose and for someone else to claim should they desire to maintain them. As mentioned previously, we've had a total of 4 plugins removed in the lifetime of both Oxide and uMod, all from the same author; so not a common thing.
