Server lag when using plugin

On our server, I downgraded to v1.4.9 and rebuilt the config from scratch which is working again without lag.

Today I'm aiming to update to the latest version but create the config from scratch to see if that helps. We don't have a top end dedicated server but at the same time we don't have a budget one either.

Ya, I don't know then tbh my only idea is from scratch as well all I can think of is somewhere in the data it hiccuped or it's one of the bases having an issue being pasted which is a possibility too I know Copypaste+RB in the past can mess up and one just kaput and spams errors all because it took to long and it just hangs and requires a unload or restart.

As for the server again it can be related to your host...a lot do not get more than half the rust host out there do limit you and your CP will lie about its usage there's a lot of them mine being one of them.

I have caught 5 host in a lie that there CP will say the servers using 3-4GB Ram when it's in fact not counting all the other servers on your machine as 99.99% host FYI are shared meaning your server will be with a dozen other rust servers unless you are with Game servers or Survival Servers then it will be twice that to three times that. and when you add up the usage you run into issues where one simple plugin can lag your server because it can not keep up as its resources are being used on so many places at once. so it may seem plugin-based cause you unload it but it's really because you're on a shared server.

Another option is asking your host to move you to another machine which most will do free of charge and if that helps it means the server you are located on is being taxed hard and they are not doing their job by limiting there dedicated box to a few servers and Also location can be an issue no lie Dallas and LA and Miami Datacenters for some unknown reason....seem to have some issues for game hosting and that one stumps me but has been becoming very common. but unlikely the issue.

Again there's a few factors it can be.

TDLR: Wipe the plugin readd the bases with default loot. if that isn't working...try fresh bases if that fails unload everything but copy/paste and let it run for a bit to spawn it's maxed bases if that works then your server you are on is being taxed to death and they are sending your resources to people like mine who pay for the priority stuff aka CPU priority Which will mean for you who do not pay for it will get the issues they will not as the resources are being handed to them. if that all fails I'd ask for being moved to a new machine but depending on the provider that means an IP Change.

Hopefully, this helps you cause I went through the same issues with another plugin and I blamed them when it turned out to be my host and cause my resources because I did not pay the extra funds hopefully not the case but I know SS/Hosthavoc/GS/GSK/PP/RoxServers all have this issue with GTX you have to pay for the upgrades or you get shafted hard.  gonna tell ya now though if survival servers or game servers your toast there awful for rust and ark. and you will rip your hair out fighting with them like me and many others on how they limit your resources. and tell you to buy upgrades and refuse to usually refund you and why they have quite a lot business bureau complaints in the past.

Well the good news is I'm Tech savvy with infrastructure (to a point) and I've already identified and proven loads of issues which have been addressed with our Server. I have actually had them move us to another node as we are using a shared server and another client was causing major performance issues for us.

As far as the plugin has gone, I have been reloading and unloading the raidable bases plugin which proves we have an issue with this one and not others. Another thing I want to do at some point is ONLY load in the Raidable Bases plugin with Copypaste to see if there are any conflicts with any other plugins we have and feedback. But as a server owner yourself, it's not easy finding the right time to do that!

I have seen v1.5.5 has been released so, I'll try that out today and recreate the config from scratch to see if I can get it working better... here's hoping!

did you guys find a solution?

Sorry, I know its been a while but I've been creating the config from scratch, taken me a couple of days with the new layout.

I'm looking to implemnet the update this evening. I should be able to report back tomorrow on my situation.

Ok at this moment in time, we have the latest version 1.5.6 and we have no lag.

We must have had something dodgy in the config somewhere. So i deleted all traces of this plugin, copied it back on and recreated all the configs from scratch:

  • cfg
  • Lang
  • Building Profiles
    • Readded all bases manually using rb.config add ..... etc
  • Loot Tables

If anyone else is having performance issues, do this... rebuild from scratch

I forgot to mention that we've doubled the number of raidable bases we normally have too and its holding up really nicely, all the performance work you've put in Nivex has really helped.

Thank you!

It must be your server as I run with a minimum of 6 raidable bases at one time and a max of 12 at one time and I havnt seen any lag or hickups  and I run a dedicated windows server 2019 I7 with 32 gb ram and 1 tb ssd I also run over 70 plugins...
@R3PooC so you don't have a copy of your old config anywhere? I could use that and your new config + profile to find differences to see if a setting was causing it

@TwoShoes, It's not our server, I'm quite good at identifying performance issues with hardware.

@nivex Yep, I'll get the configs available for you today.

@nivex Sorry, it looks like I didn't take a backup of the dodgy cfg file, the one where it was lagging so bad. I'll keep looking, just in case.

I think the best suggestion is to create a new cfg from v1.5.5 (or later).

no problem

I will post A question on TruePVE too, you ever kind dude
I don't have enough info to tell you anything

what is the lag? is it FPS drop, rubberbanding, or what?

WHEN does it lag? always? when bases spawns? when bases despawn?

what version are you using?
1) I have connection FTTC 200d/20u, server uses SSD 120 GB kingston, ryzen r7 2700x and 32GB RAM
2) Ping go over a lot
3) It lag while people attack bases
4) I'm using v1.5.2
Thanks a lot for help dude :)
well there's your problem... you need to update. if you still have issues with 1.6.0 then let me know and I can help more
