Imgur did this earlier in the year to lots of images. We weren't sure what happened, but some speculated that it was deleting highly used/embedded images that were uploaded without an account. This time, it seems that they deleted (without notice) images that were uploaded with my account.

I should have the images somewhere. I can get them uploaded as skins to workshop and we can refer to the skin ids in the config, so we can avoid image hosting problems in the future (steam has infrastructure designed to handle skin distribution).

Not just speculation, it's a part of their new TOS. Endgadget wrote an article on the upcoming deletion in April about the changes that were starting in May:

which is odd since all my images ARE tied to an account , and usually afaik you have to have an account to upload images
