Sorry for what may be a dumb question, but this is obviously not a plugin that is easy to just test.

The documentation shows forward slashes as in a web address but file paths use backslashes, can we use either or do we copy the documentation?

Only Windows uses backslashes, Linux uses forward slashes for file paths. It's safer to stick with foward slashes for all.
