As the heading describes, I guess I'm a n00bish admin yet, just started my first server for my friends.. 
However, I have added a lot of plugins, and configured them, but I have not been able to find a plugin that can trigger on chat command "/players" to report a list of online players on my server. How do I, or where can I find the information needed?

I see you found one solution to your problem. There's a few mods that can help out if you need non-admin players to have that functionality. If you're looking for administrative commands that do not require a mod, you should read up on the Player List commands for a list of commands and some examples of what each does.
