So I currently have other games hosted and they work fine, in terms of people connecting and playing. But recently rust has stopped showing up.
Ports are set in firewall settings, Ports are set in router settings, localhost doesn't even work? Just wanted to know if anyone might have something to help a little. Just frustating that a different hosted game works fine but Rust giving me issues.
Server Not Forwarding
If you are not able to connect on localhost then there is a problem with the server itself, nothing to do with firewall or router.
Curious if you ever figured anything out on this. I seem to have run into the same problem since the latest update. Server was running fine, showing up on the modded list in rust for all to see and connect to. Then, with the recent update, it has fallen off of the list and can't be connected by anyone. I can connect locally (if using the LAN ip address on my network, localhost:28015 doesn't work for me either). I've pretty much thrown in the towel.
If you can connect on local IP then your rustserver is fine, you just have a networking issue. First try disabling your firewall, if that works then you need to configure firewall properly before switching it back on. If you still can't connect externally with firewall off then you have a port forwarding issue.
Still unable to get it to show up on local IP. Been trying daily, either just starting a whole new instance, new OS install, even re tried doing the firewall settings again and thats set correctly for the ports needed aswell as router settings are correct.. Kinda strange to me since it's the exact same batch script as before with some things changed like rcon password becasue I did utilize that feature for remote monitoring.
This is unmodded too. Haven't tried to install since I can't get the server to even show up locally...
I have a Valheim server hosted with no problems. Shows up globally for people to join. Just strange as hell this wont work.....
Can supply the batch if needed to see if it's something stupidly simple on my end thats not right.
What exactly do you mean by "show up"? Are you able to connect via local IP or not?
by show up i was meaning connect with local IP. but no i'm not able to connect.
2 weeks ago you said "I can connect locally (if using the LAN ip address on my network..." so is this no longer the case? It's difficult to help you when you don't give the correct information.
i see the confusion as that post wasn't from me, posted by "Yabo31" That post was someone else asking about it.
Well as I said in my original post a month ago, if you are not able to connect on local IP then there is a problem with the server itself (configs etc). You could first try checking that the server is actually running and/or check the rustserver logs and see if you're getting errors. Also make sure the port number you are connecting to matches the server.port number in your startup parameters.
I've been testing to see if i can spot anything that seems odd about it in log files and in cmd while it's running and noticed a few things.
1. In CMD while it's running, there is zero movement on the bytes in or out at the bottom.
2. In "Conection_log_28015" I do notice a ipv6 HTTP test that fails often. but not everytime it starts.
The exact ping it tries is "(ext1-ord1.steamserver.net:443) and "(ipv6check-http.steamcontent.com)".
Timeout error almost everytime but not all the time.
3.In "Service_log" BOpenService faild (GLE 1060) and ServiceStart failed to start (GLE 0)
4. Inventory_service_log says this, [2023-01-19 19:33:41] [App 252490] - Failed to call Inventory.GetItemDefMeta#1: No Connection (error message: )
So to me it almost seems that the server is unable to connect to any source of internet? It's all wired with Cat 6a.
Like i've said before tho, I have a valheim server no problems but this with a batch script off rustafied wont?
Still scratching my head at this one.
Once the server is fully started it does say "SteamServer Initialized" "Server startup complete"
"SteamServer Connected"
