Want to host my server home, won't go online
I can't figure out how to set up a server. I want to host it from my own hardware.
I have set up all the files. Made a .bat to launch it, tried even .bat launchers from other users. It seems to work fine, but only when i connect using my local ip:the port i assigned
It does not show on the server browser list on Rust.
I port forwarded on my router, tried using static ip for my pc and even the main ip. Tried disabling firewall (rustdedicated.exe was permitted). Even phoned my isp, the opened the ports from their end. Looks like they had them closed initially.
I tried in firewall advanced to open the ports manually.

Nothing seems to make the server show on the rust server list.

Could some one help me figure this one out?
And do you think if i called over a worker from my isp, could he make it go live? It would cost me money ofc, wanna try sorting this out myself 1st.
You can open ports via torrent (launch server then torrent)
I don't get it. You mean utorrent? :D
How do i open ports with it?
Typically you will need to verify the options and configuration of..
  1. Software firewalls, like Windows Firewall
  2. Hardware firewalls, like in your router (most likely)
  3. Rust ports, RCON ports, and Steam ports
Server won't show up in the browser list right away if it's a new one, usually takes a day or two if it doesn't have enough players (as long as you keep it online). If you can connect through direct IP, then it has been portforwarded correctly and should show up in the browser list. I wouldn't recommend hosting from home due to DDOS and many ISPs don't allow it.
any server can be ddosed - so paying for a Host does not save you from attacks. As for ISPs not allowing it - you pay the bill so you decide.
also it doesnt take days for your server to show online in the browser - try less than 5 mins regardless of how many players online.
Its your router that is proberly the cause of it not showing up.Double check the correct ports are open.
Make sure in your router TCP and UDP are both selected and its bound to your local ip

example open cmd promp window and type ipconfig - you want the ipv4 address.
this is what your port should be bound to if you are hosting from a home computer.
Thanks for the replies! I will re-launch it and try to get someone join from the internet. Would the ip be my non-local ip:port?
My router has some ddos protection, i will enable it when i'm ready to launch. Only it warns it lowers internet bandwidth, shouldnt be a problem with a half gigabit u/d connection.

My isp allows it, had to email the the reason why i request them to open prots from their side. They were cool with it.
I will try port forwarding steam ports, dunno what they are but will find out.

By the way should i have my wan ip static or my local ip static? My wan is dynamic.

And these are my .bat launch options. Maybe something is wrong with these?

:start
C:\test\steamcmd\steamcmd.exe +login anonymous +force_install_dir C:\test\rustserver\ +app_update 258550 +quit
RustDedicated.exe -batchmode +server.port 28015 +server.level "Procedural Map" +server.seed 8016586 +server.worldsize 4000 +server.maxplayers 100 +server.hostname "Testing123" +server.description "Hope this works!" +server.url "https://www.rustafied.com/how-to-host-your-own-rust-server/" +server.headerimage "https://www.rustmonitor.com/static/img/servers/defdf7aa3ef3c34e1910d533a1f5f008.png" +server.identity "testserver" +rcon.ip 0.0.0.0 +server.ip 0.0.0.0 +rcon.port 28016 +rcon.password pusspass
goto start
the WAN IP is the IP players will use to connect to your server.

You will want the WAN IP to be static.  If you have a dynamic WAN address, you should..
  1. Upgrade your internet package to give you a static address
  2. Use a GSP or colocated/dedicated machine to host your server somewhere else.
I strongly recommend against hosting your server from a residential internet connection, if that's in-fact what you're doing.  The bandwidth required to host a popular Rust server is not insubstantial and you will be unlikely to comfortably host for more than 10-15 players (and even then only if they're all in the same geographic region as your server).
i have 400+ mbit download and upload so no worries about that. So basically my server is invisible because of my dynamic wan ip?

Btw my server is up rn. If you could, please, try connecting 188.112.140.115:28015
A dynamic wan IP means your ISP will periodically change your IP address without notice or warning.  This means that..
  1. You will have difficulty getting on the server list
  2. Players who previously connected will not be able to find your server in their history, they will have to find it every time in the master server list
  3. Players connected to your server will all be randomly kicked when the IP switches over
Hmm but that means it's not the problem why nobody can join the server currently? I think i could settle the dynamic wan issue. But 1st things 1st i want to test if i can even manage to get it runing at all.

Tried to connect to it?

Damn. looks like my server crashed. the cmd froze on 6m 9sec I'll launch it again. Maybe u can try in 2 minutes?
just tried to connect to 188.112.140.115:28015 - no luck
Yeah, i shut it down. Got a guy to try to connect. He couldn't either.
I have no idea how to get it online.

Maybe i could scrap everything and follow a different guide. If someone could point me to a good one.
I think it's a network problem, but i might aswell just try again.
