Possible to get DDoS protection outside of host?
Hey everyone!  I've got a few questions I would like to ask you fellow administrators. I'm about to host 2 seperate rust servers on my dedicated box, though unfortunately the host provider im using does not have a decent DDoS mitigation system. I'm pretty sure that sooner or later my server is going to be a target of DDoS attack from a specific person that does this on servers from a certain region (to keep his population high).  Is there a way to protect my server other than hosting on a DDoS protected provider? I heard the terminology "reverse proxy" which pretty much is like setting up a frontend server (say a VPS with good protection ) that forwards traffic to the backend server (the game server itself) so users only have to deal with the frontend server. Has anyone done this? Can you please give me a general direction on  what to look for or what my choices are for protection?  Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

This is possible. What you're looking for though is a tunnel rather than a proxy. More specifically for example a GRE tunnel.

This way the IP address of the player will be preserved. To your "destination gameserver" it'll look as if these players were connecting directly.

Thanks,

Edit:

Both in and outbound traffic will flow through this tunnel, so you'll want to make sure it's nearby your destination gameserver in order to keep latencies low.

i can help u with that. i have done it with my server . it blocks the ddos and make ur server secure. as gameserverking. i can help u do the tunnel for ur server.and couple of other tricks.
