Hey,

I used to know a website where I would just upload the icon and it would publish a fake skin with the icon for me to use. Is there somthing like this still, if not whats the way people are doing now?

 Yeah I am aware on how to do it was just wondering if someone had a more streamlined way of getting it onto the workshop, thanks anyway!

Ok so for those that discover this post try this, worked for me and is a lot easier!

Go into your Steam Directory -> userdata -> the steamid given there -> then to the folder which has the game id of rust (252490) -> remote -> and there you can see the previewfiles. All you need to do is create a skin, publish it, a thumbnail will be generated in this folder, take ur own thumbnail, rename it to the one that got created and update ur skin via rust. Then it will update the old workshop thumbnail with the one you replaced!

That's nearly the same method as in the video link. Different file path, though.

But, I'm sure you're also aware of that, lol.

The method is also a bit different, its not based of how fast your pasting is. This just allows you to do it as a "update"

For example i used Steamworks to add item into workshop directly with my tool, so it makes process with 1 click. You can explore more in documentations on github page of Steamworks

facepunch could easily allow the adding of a custom icon withhin their workshop also but they dont....sigh
