uMod - Possible to mask server IP address? - Rust

Hi i would like to mask my rust server ip address with a domain i just bought, on go daddy, thing is i want battle metrics to display the domain name instead of them showing my ip, would like them to show my domain name, also when players ask me for direct connect ip i give them the domain instead of my public ip.

ive seen this before and i am adding this as a security measure as i am having mass tons of ddos attacks, which my fortinet cannot filter because it comes within the same country as my players ips. soo im looking to see where would this go i have tried to add this into batch settings;
-server.ip mydomainname.com

Not sure if/how this would work. server.url is for your website. The direct connect link looks like this: client.connect 45.55.125.186:28015 and is only used in console in-game. The steam link steam://connect/rust.mydomain.net:28016 uses the steam browser protocol and might be what you're looking for. The start.bat file might not be equipped to resolve the domain name to an IP so maybe try putting your site's IP:PORT directly instead of the domain name.

ryan like always thanks for your replies and taking your time, there a some servers that mask their public ip behind a domain for example, gamservers.com:28015
and if you connect with that on console you can connect to the server, this dns provider has anti ddos protection i know it might be theorical but might stop ddos on own hosted rust servers just dont know how to fire this thing up

There is no way to show a domain name only. IP is used in many places and domain is not an option. You can use an IP that is behind a DDoS protection.

Every domain name points to an IP address and you can easily look it up, that's the whole purpose of a domain name in the first place. There is no "security" in using a domain name instead of IP address, there is no "mask", it just looks more fancy.

Cloudflare etc just use their IP but it wouldnt work in rust that way.

ok first thanks for your time, second lets get it fancy i already purchased the domain...why i want to use the domain?, because 85% of people who just go to online booters dont know how to ping a domain and use lookup tools, and booters or botnets dont have the option to attack directly to domain names it asks ip and port, so that wey i would say yes it adds security in a dumb way but it adds. helo me please? how to set up that fancy domain with my server

Misticos i kknow you are the man for this, any idea how to tet that ddos protection bbut in the cloud? the idea is to help self hosted servers to get added protection at a fraction of the coast of vos with anti ddos and stuff and for people like me that have a good firewall but its very restrictive.

IIRC there is no way to make it "domain only" - your server will anyways be visible in like BattleMetrics server list with IP, unless you use an external ddos protected IP - then.. u won't need a domain as well.

You can do it on Godaddy. Go to the settings for the domain (manage DNS) and set an A record to point to the IP address.

If your hosting provider doesn't have DDoS protection you will not be able to set it up separately on your individual game server, for various reasons.

No need to post twice. Just get a protected IP that's it, usually some even don't reveal the internal non protected one IIRC.

You can get cheap/free cloud DDoS protection for a WEBSITE hosted on a local server, but game servers are a whole different ballgame - like I said, it's not feasible. You either pay for a commercial game host that has DDoS protection or you save costs by hosting yourself without DDoS protection. You can't have both. By all means try to prove me wrong.

i have just proved you wrong, paying 10$ for a vpn worked great, have anti ddos unique ip and portforwarding, its working like a charm, i even stress test the network with a flood of packets to rust port of 8gbps, and it filtered good connections from fake ones.

only downside though is that they dont have any good server around my country so that option atm is not feasible for me ateast.

but will leave that reply here so everyone that is having this issues can give this a go.
