Players unable to join server, instant crashingSolved
hey guys,

new to posting on here. But I’m having an issue where the server seems to function just fine. No errors. Until a user tries to join. Then it just insta crashes and starts the restart cycle..

ive tried a fresh server with no mods except oxide and rust:Io. And no change. Any insite? Even my vanilla server does the same today.. and I didn’t change a think from yesterday.

We can't really say based on the information you have provided.  Please check all of your log files.
Yes where do I find the log files?? I’ll provide what ever is needed
Typically they are in oxide/logs.  Look specifically for messages that co-incide with the crashes you're reporting.

Also.. I’m noticing only sometimes when the server starts I get a bunch of red text in the cmd... which isn’t showing in the log file for some reason.. keeps saying

“nullreferenceexception: object reference not set to an instance of an object.”

this is never happened yesterday..
If your server is actually crashing, there would be crash dumps in your server's install location. For everything else, I'd suggest looking in Rust's/Unity's output_log.txt file (or where -logfile) is set to. The oxide/logs are only going to show you things related to Oxide and plugins.

logfilename.log would be located where RustDedicated.exe is, in your server's install location.

hello look here for logs C:\Users\YourName\AppData\LocalLow\Facepunch Studios LTD\Rust\
or change in your .bat file this line -logfile logfilename.log to example -logfile "logs/output_logfilename.txt"
then u find it in path ...\rustds\logs\

I've got the Unity Output_log.txt creating properly now just trying to get it populated s I can post it.


when users try to login they get to the screen where your sleeping then they just time out. and the server goes straight into the restart cycle.

Sounds like there may be some filesystem permission issues with the server install, else it is somehow corrupted or not fully updated. I’d suggest testing on a fully updated clean install without Oxide.
I was having the same problems with a vanilla server too.. I have the server installed right in my C: location. should I be updating and installed apps with steamcmd as anonymous or my steam login? im using anonymous.
