Make a check when you take off your backpack or throw it away, so that the parachute does not open anymore and the player falls. Otherwise, you can throw out the parachute and still fly on the parachute, opening and closing it until you land.

Now in version 0.2.2 if you take off the parachute mid flight (not sure why you'd do this :D ) it will remove the Chute feature and you fall as normal.
