I'm testing this plugin because I like the idea, but it seems on reload the messages are lost.

I set a message. I test the message. Works. I reload the plugin. The message is gone. The data file has nothing in it.

I noticed the messages get saved after a while. I'm guessing there isn't an immediate save.
