just-wiped.net is using various methods of trying to find a wipe. If something is actually outdated, then it is the steam protocol, which only gives that low number of data, which then ends up to being manipulatable. Just-wiped uses map names, as well as seeds, sizes, entity counts as well as textual indicators in order to find the correct wipes and in order to make sure those wipes are relevant.
I have enough examples of server owners comparing the listed wipes at battlemetrics with mine and in the end, the result is, that, since there is no official way of wipe prediction, theirs and my solution have their benefits and drawbacks.
The usability of the site or design might not be the best. But in the end, I am a developer and doing that all on my own. Based on that, I am pretty satisfied how most things turned out.
And to get back to the inital "problem": I personally think starting to adjust somehow static data is just not in the favor of any listing service like mine. I had to add so many spam protections in order to filter out those faking servers, that just pretend various things, that are not real. Having a random (and frequently changing) map name is also a thing that might be "cool", but in the end does not necessarily be in the favor of the actual user.
Anyway. Thanks for your feedback. 👍 I will consider to add a search bar that allows quick finding of everything needed. Since I think changing the map name and/or doing this frequently is not a good habit, I dont think I adjust my platform for this right now. Mainly because I think this is not useful for the players. (Because they dont know what they get; I cannot generate preview images of the maps; mostly not useful information anyway)
In order to avoid people running in that issue without knowing, you might consider adding a comment within your plugin, telling, that the interval feature will cause problems with the just-wiped.net listing. Basically after using that on existing servers, they completly trash their whole profile.
Thanks for your time and have a good weekend
Merged postAnd I want to add something regarding the word "antiquated". If you only focus on the network based underlaying that whole server infrastructure, nothing has changed since years. Which is kind of the benefit of APIs, to have something mostly reliable for longer periods, that lead to a stable infrastructure.
People starting to fiddle around with that "solid" server data and changing it to "unsolid" data, does not make the infrastructure and methods antique. It is basically user breaking/manipulating the system in order to gain benefits from it.
Everybody can judge, what is "right" here, but I, as a developer prefer the reliable and regulated way, that does not lead to unreliable data in the first place.
Regards
Merged postFYI: I just deactivated the map name change as a wipe indicator.
