Naming Convention Change to AllowlistNo Thanks

It would be great to see a change in the naming convention of the Whitelist to Allowlist. Allowlist is a more inclusive naming convention for this type of feature that does not have it's roots in racism. There has been a big push in software development communities in the last few years to update these outdated naming conventions with more inclusive terms such as Allowlist vs Whitelist, Primary vs. Master, and Secondary vs. Slave. This is my petition to start this movement in our community.

Thanks!

In actuality, the term whitelist was created in response to an already defined term "blacklist", going back to the 1400s which was before the term "black" was even used to describe a race.. This term was in fact based on light vs dark being good and bad. While people could assume that it was race driven, it in fact is not.. changing the name or the term behind something doesnt change its meaning.. Nothing in the lists are racially driven. Its not until someone brings race into this that its even an issue.. Rather then changing the terms, the effort would be better spent actually identifing and stopping racist thoughts and actions.. I don't know a single developer that thinks about race with the term whitelist or blacklist.. like male fitting, female fitting, male coupler, or female coupler.. etc etc. Its only on the audiance to bring in negitative thoughts. While I do appreciate the Progressive approach to not hurt anyones feelings. I also question what type of peoples' feelings get hurt by this? Never have I thought to bring in some hateful meaning, where one didn't exist. If you want to find hate you can find it.. even when its not there.

I have to agree, being in the industry for many years. This is the first time hearing about this. Probably because I do not reside in the US.

Either way, such a change is not as easy as it seems, and later on, someone will find offence in the new naming convention as well.
