Server crashing every couple days

I have a server with a host that offers 250 slots, and often times it crashes within 1.5 days or 2 days of having the server on, it's a 3x modded server. and most of the time it crashes randomly. We had 25 players on today and it was doing fine. Although server.fps was showing 10-20 fps at times but no one was complaining about lag. Testified this myself and it seems to work nicely on the server. But now it crashed again without reason with about 9-10 people online. Is there a way to identify which plugin is leaking memeory or is it just the recent rust oxide/umod updates? Thanks! And I was told that daily restarts might help and might not, so I did not bother to restart the server. Or am I supposed to?

If anyone recognize the plugins under that might cause crashes please let me know. I would appreciate the information very much! Thank you.

First you need to see how much ram does your server have ? my server with 50+ plugins uses 8-10gb ram. The problem might not be in the plugin but rather in your server does not have enough ram.

My solution:
What i do to prevent building leak memory is restarting it daily(automated) using this plugin. This will ensure to clear out any junk data thus reduce ram usuage.

Keep in mind that smooth restart only shutdowns the server at a specific time.

my server provider claims that they are not limiting* our RAM usage and that the absolute max capacity is 250GB RAM. But as far as RAM goes, it runs about 7-8 GB for a good 2 days and then it crashes. But as far as CPU goes, they're always using 2.5 cores. They are also claiming that rust updates and oxide updates sometimes will mess up the server and cause the crash. As well as Rust in general not having a good enough of software to keep things stable where it would also crash the server. I just don't know which side of it to trust. But I am currently using arkservers.io as the hosting company.

Oh lastly, they also don't CAP their server.fps because it's not really needed? i'm not sure that's actually helping us or not since they're suggesting that it uses more server hardware at CAP fps and it's not needed.

Maybe comitting daily restarts will help this issue?

250GB ram is overkill and wasteful for running a rust server. I believe its 250GB ram pool meaning your sharing the ram with other servers. I'm pretty sure they are limiting you with 8GB ram. What you can is restart your server everyday and let me know after few days if that work.

alrighty, sounds good oryx. thank you!
Unless you are seeing actual crash dump files in your server install location (unsure if your host exposes everything there), then it's most likely a memory limit imposed by the host, which causes the server to restart once that limit is hit.
Which host are you using? Alot of hosts limit you in a way that you can only run a low-pop vanilla server
I run on GTX with 60+ mods, custom map thats a 4700 map size

@Razor I was obviously asking OP
@ClamChowder You could try to email them and ask them if they run your server on a real physical machine or if you are sharing it with others.

Unfortunately (modded) rust is a very resource-consuming game so 8gb of ram is not gonna cut it and it will crash once your server starts to take off.

I've had this pain in the past which made me lose alot of my players

Actually, just being modded doesn’t mean it is more resource hungry, it all depends on what you are doing with it.

@Goldie I mentioned my host because most decent hosts are set up to let you run a 4k map with a decent number of mods. Now there are some hosts that I'll call "sketchy" that might not know there buttox from a hole in the ground, or are just starting in server hosting that may have over crowded boxes but for the most part 4k map size with 20-30 mods is what most providers will do with no issues.

At this time I run my server on GTX Gamings servers and its a 4700 map size thats been customly modded and incluesd more items then the usual map. I also run 3 discord addons that ping back and forth between the server and discord along with 82 addons. Honestly higher gather rates and higher loot populations along with things that add additional AI (things like murderes, scarecrows, scientists or animals) add more entity counts faster and is more likely to cause lag and crashing issues.

@ClamChowder pm me on discord and I can try to help you more. My discord name is Razor14150#7265
