Yeah, that's a thing they can really work on :)

There are a couple of options.. sometimes @playrust tweets about it, sometimes @Rustafied knows some stuff. But there are bots on for instance Discord that can push messages in a channel when there's a client/server update

Oxide is always updated after a Rust update, otherwise you are using part of an old version of the game on top of the new. We post what is changed when we update. We also provide update notifications in our Discord channels.

For Rust, unless the protocol changed, then it isn't a required update and you can update at your own discression. Prototol is generally only changed the first Thursday of each month.

But sometimes they change the protocol, and ask for update a server, is there a way to see it?

I'm new to hosting Rust but not game servers. I came to ask this same question after seeing an update was needed this morning. I thought FP was on a monthly schedule for updates. Do they simply roll out required client/server updates on a whim, without any notification?

They often announce on their Twitter accounts, but the updates were for crash fixes mainly.

Ok, thanks. Makes sense they would put out quick fixes. I just don't know what to expect from them yet. I'll check out the Discord bots. They really should have an email list for server admins...

I have found using this discord bot for notices when rust and oxide do updates has been very useful and i hope you all don't mind me sharing that link here it's a official discord bot and works very well, it tells me if the update is client or server side, also tells me when the oxide github is updated with links to them for more info.
