Oxide.config.json file missing completelySolved

Hello,

As the title says, the oxide.config.json file is missing from my server... This server is 1 month old. After the update today my server wouldn't start. I saw some previous posts about people reinstalling and it working fine again. I saved off my plugins, data, and config folders so I could just reupload easily and be done. I did all of this and my server is working fine again. However, I notice there's no oxide.config.json file for me to go in and set the server to not modded, or change the rcon password, etc...

I'm hoping someone can tell me either where to get the specific file I need, or what I'm doing wrong that might cause this issue.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

The file is created when the server starts with Oxide.

That's what i thought. I went ahead and started it and still cannot find it in either the Oxide folder, Oxide.rust, or Rustdedicated folders. I'm not sure what's going on.

Also something to add, though i'm not sure it's necessary... When I reinstalled the server, the Oxide directory only had the Plugin subdirectory. I then added the config and data subdirectories and uploaded my prexisting config and data files. I don't recall having to add these folders in the past, but I also don't recall having to do a reinstall due to something like this, so maybe this is expected. However, the oxide.config.json is no where to be found. I also checked the Server directory and it's not in there either. Is this something I can just download and add to the server, or should it be a default file that is added when Oxide is installed?

Where exactly are you looking, FTP? Sometimes things don't always show instantly via http://FTP. All of those folders and files are created as long as Oxide is running.

I looked in the Oxide directory, Oxide.Rust directory, RustDedicated_Data and server. It was in none of these locations. I had already started the server, let it load all the way in, logged in to the server successfully, then stopped the server. At this point I looked again at the same directories mentioned above and it was still nowhere to be found.

Once I couldn't find it I looked at some old files I had from a previous self-hosted rust server. I took the oxide.config.json from here and I put it in the Oxide directory. I have a feeling this is not correct, as when I load the server I see nothing about plugins loading, whereas I would before.

The file is located under oxide directly, so if you don't see, your host may not give you access to it. If you see no indication of Oxide loading though, it's likely it isn't installed.

I don't think it's a visability thing, as I did have access to it to initially set it to not modded. However since the reinstallation earlier, I haven't seen the file. Is me adding the file from a previous server ok? As far as Oxide being installed, when I did the reinstall I went in to my Mod Manager and installed Oxide (latest) and Discord (latest). I now only see Update and Uninstall as options, so I'd have to believe Oxide is installed, at least from what I can see.

The "Mod Manager" won't give you an actual status, just that you once clicked that.

Oh I see... Ok, are you able to tell me where to check that it's installed? The Oxide directory does exist in my file manager.

Merged post

I opened the server log file and couldn't find the words Oxide or Plugin in the file at all, so maybe it's not installed.... I'm not sure how I would install this outside of the Mod Manager. Are you able to direct me to where I can find it?

Download > extract > upload. You can also just reinstall with your mod manager.

I did the reinstall through the Mod Manager and initially it didn't change anything. Then I updated it again, let it stay off for a while, and when it came back up it is working again and I see my plugins. I guess it needed a lot more time than I expected, but I'm happy it's working now. Thank you for all of your help, @Wulf!!
