Necessary to set fps.limit on dedicated server?
I have 2 servers, 1 with 50 people and another with 100+ people

Should I set an fps.limit ?

or just fps.limit -1 to unleash the beast.

I was thinking there might be some benefit as if it's the same as a gaming PC - when you set an FPS limit on a gaming PC it won't take up as much power and it will keep things smoother. I used to do this on my gaming laptop, it could reach 150 FPS but I set it to 60 FPS limit so it didn't work too hard and get too hot - do dedicated server work like this?

I got the server from OVH btw.

More than 256 fps is a waste of resources, I also have a dedicated from OVH and I have a limit of 300. I don't have any issues ^^

You just said more than 256 is a waste of resources but you have a limit of 300?

Also, I've read that before but what does it actually mean? Like is it actually going to affect something negatively? I know other OVH server owners who have done fps.limit -1 and I can see they have 700+ FPS in Battlemetrics.
Having more than 256 FPS is useless, nobody won't see the difference

Also, I'...
Yeah I always have 300 fps limit.... But I just said that more than 256 is a waste of resources, I usually have 285 fps withoud fps drops.

I like to have a bit more fps than 256, that's why I have that limit.

I know but there's no harm in it right? I can set it much higher without issues?

Yes you can ;)
Thanks was just wondering because I couldn't find any definite answers online.
Sensei, did you get the fps.limit -1 to work?
Hey xxxNUXxxx. There is no need to post in threads that are one year old as the warning states above the quick reply box.

Limiting FPS any higher than 60 makes 0 sense because people will not notice and you are just using more CPU for no reason. However -1 removes the FPS limit if you really wanna do it.
hello Sensei, I can advise you "fps.limit 256", this is really stable at OVH (Rise 2 with 64 gb of RAM and 2x 450gb ssd m2)
Personally I use the FPS plugin limiter for an empty server, to keep the wattage down when it is empty...
if you have a server that is capable of monitoring it's own PSU & wattage, you will see why...
no need for an fps limit if you rent a machine from OVH since you do not manage the voltages
voltages... the things I read
