is there a way to deactivate the leather strap around the body?

Run .SetPlayerFlag(BasePlayer.PlayerFlags.DisplaySash, false) on FixedUpdate().

unfortunately I don't understand what that means.

I use this plugin although it is now unmaintained it still works with no problems,

That plugin uses a much better way than what I suggested.
