Rust server performance issue with horses
Hello fellow game enthusiasts,

I'm trying to host a non-modded community server. But I have a very distinct problem that I cannot solve for a week.

Situation is : Whenever I do a wipe, or just restart my server, REGARDLESS of the colliders and the entities loaded on the map, the server starts to drop fps to 85-95 range. While this is all okay a server can run smoothly even on 30 fps I know, BUT here comes the strangest issue: When this drop happens, (Which is EXACTLY 30~minutes after a wipe / restart / reboot) the HORSES on the map are completely unusable. Twitches, lag spikes, stuttering, non-responsive controls, lagging all over the place, It's like server is getting DDoS attacks with 60.000.000MB of data or UDP attacks.

When doing ANYTHING else, server rust completely fine, ONLY the horses.

I feel like this frame drop is a signal for another failure or error and this is the server's way of letting me know.

But my question is : Why is it only happening after a very spesific time frame passed?
Why is it only happening to "horses" ?

Even if i leave my server open with nobody inside for few hours, fps starts to deteriorate slowly to 70~range and 60~range continiously..

When the server first starts up its 160-200 fps range. then after 30 minutes, immediately drops down to 80~range while we are doing absolutely nothing. Nobody on the server, just doing a test run.

Please assist me in this matter for troubleshooting. I'm begging you. This is the first time I encounter such a thing for years.
-----------

Diffrent troubleshoots I did :

-Tried with 250k collider and 50k collider maps also entities, no diffrence, same time frame, same fps drop, same horse movement glitch.

-Tried changing tickrate, same behaviour.

-Tried giving CPU "high" priority for RustDedicated.exe, same behaviour. (Fps only increases from 160 to 220 range at startup but still drops to 85-95 range after 30~ min which starts the horse issue.

-Tried fully loaded with 1 months of entity 4000size Procedural map - same behaviour after 30 min
-Tried completely empty 2500size Barren map - same exact behaviour after 30 min

Dedicated Server Specs :
2x Intel Xeon CPU X5670 @2.93GHz
SSD Disk
64GB of ram

If you please assist me I will be ever grateful as we are trying to solve this with my 2 programmer friends but we are in a total confusion state.

With My Best Regards,
Does it happen if you remove all plugins?
1. Turn off the server
2. Rename oxide folder to something else like oxide_x
3. Turn on the server
Not using any plugin at all. Tried with removing oxide altogether, complete clean reinstall, still same behaviour
What is your CPU and make sure nothing else is using the same core(s)
Dedicated Server Specs :
2x Intel Xeon CPU X5670 @2.93GHz
SSD Disk
64GB of ram

rustdedicated.exe is on high priority
Rust is single threaded, I doubt such CPU is good enough. Even if you use thousands of cores it won't really matter. You need a CPU with high single thread performance
Maybe turn off horses altogether with ridablehorse.population "0"
I have an old Dell T7500 with one of those Xeon chips.  Single CPU instead of the double.  Was a pretty beefy system back in the day.  Now, not so much.
not enough RAM, you need 128 GB

You dont need 128GB of RAM, I run a test server on my computer with 12GB of RAM getting 270fps
128GB per physical CPU*

😂

guy wrote a long post and tries to make a server and you're just having fun of it. consider not doing that, he just needs some help and support.
Misticos: I replied with a valid troubleshooting step about the horse population covar. You told him his CPU sucks and recommended he restart his server...

We're just making jokes.
I said to get a better CPU, not to restart the server.
I'm slapping a Ryzen 7 3800x on the dedicated machine. See if it works! And no, I want to keep my horses thank you :D
