Soft wiped / server restarts

Ok I have a question for all Dev's here.

It's hard for me to put this into words here so bear with me.

What are your views on server restarts / soft wipes.

Is it necessary to hard restart everyday or can it be optional and does it really help with server performance if it's not hard restarted at all

All of us server admin usually do timed restarts but this takes away from players playtime having the server rebooted (I don't know what rebooting the server actually does).

Would it be best practice to continue this way or is there a way to make a plugin that soft restart example puts all players to sleep and the server magically cleans up bad stuff running in the background and after that timed cleanup people are able to wake up and continue doing what they were doing.

Samething goes for wipe, puts all players to sleep/kill them, all inventories cleared, all plugins data wiped (selected by admin),  bases wiped and new procedural map. I know that maps generally need a force restart for the new map to take effect but could this be overidden somehow.

Thanks this is just an idea by the way.

Depends on what plugins you're running and the machine you are running the server on. Unless you notice your server fps dropping dramatically for long periods of time of just general "lag" there is really no reason to restart your serve.

But do you think it would be possible to change your map without restarting it ?

Oh, I just restart the server even though I don't have any issues with it, basically doing what every other server does. I have a really good dedicated server running servers, So i'm not worried about the hardware aspect.

You can't change the map without restarting
You need to have it every 6-12 hours, its nessesary beacuse some shit can be clenaed only with restart

There is really no need for a restart every 12 hours. Like I said unless you are struggeling for performance there is no point at all.

I should just test it, and let it run for like 3 days without touching it to see if it affects performance.
