Admin dilemma (to ban or not to ban a player)
As an Admin myself and I believe all the Admin in this community. What are your experience or best way to tell if one is hacking or cheating.

For example. M249 double heat shot in split seconds. ESP/Wallhack.

I have tonnes of players saying that I'm trash for banning them when something is amiss.

You can also share your experience here. I would love to hear it and hoping we can learn from each other as Admin.

RustAdmin Profile also is not working as intended where a ban does not show up on their web log anymore.

It's always a tough choice but the number 1 proof is their steam profile.

- Some russian or asian with level 1, private profile, vac ban history that gets reported I always ban without looking back at twice.
- Someone that is level 100, has 500 games on their account and 2000 hours in rust obviously gets the benefit of the doubt when getting reported.

Just ask them to make their profile visible for a while and you can see if their account is legit or not

> but the number 1 proof is their steam profile.

lol?  no way should that be number 1, you must watch them play, you should be a decent player or watch good players to know what a good player even looks like.

> Some russian or asian

that's discrimination bro

Why shouldn't it be the number 1 proof? Someone with 500 games and a level 100 profile is not gonna risk his account by receiving a ban, so the chances he would cheat are very very very very low.

Someone with a level 1 account, almost no hours or games, that is dominating a certain game? Yeah that adds up....

Also it's statistics and not descrimination and I find it sad that I have to explain something as obvious as "not every russian or asian is a cheater" here because this should be common sense. It just so happens that 99% of all cheaters with level 1 steam profiles, 1 or 2 games on their accounts, 10 hours in Rust that are dominating everyone on the server just happen to have IP's coming from those countries. But yeah, in case you didn't realize this yourself: not all cheaters come from those countries and cheaters can come from other countries too (duh). But 99% of the time this is the case at least has been on my current Rust server and on my previous Rust servers in the past years.

some one will buy a level 100 profile with 500 games just to look legit... and then smurffing.. maybe not a big deal in this game it's huge in others.. people will get a new account just so they can stomp on new players.

Players with private profiles and vac bans are auto kicked when joining, so i dont have to hear any complaints,

Hunted5. I wouldn't say its discrimination. We all know that some users will farm hours and bots to farm hours in games.

This is very common and they would always argue with "Noob admin, I have 5000 hours in rust" and so on.

As I know RUST can be a lot of things and hours doesn't mean a thing to me.

I have contacted Facepunch as to how we Admin resolve such an issue but too bad no reply so far.

A hack is still a hack, doesn't matter if that account is legendary or new. Problem is, we can never get it right, it is always base on instinct and proof will not always be 100% proof as we all know.

ARKAN and NoRecoil Mod helps but definitely not 100%. Some may deem that they are very good in recoil control but as long as we are not there physically to check them, we will never know.

I have checked Youtube videos and even popular RUST Streamers would not have the capability to do a split second headshot.

might wanna go watch hjune then litteral ak god and has taken out groups with like nothing. there are people who are gods because they spend the time to master one weapon or multiple. and the m249 is one that can be mastered to double/triple HS within half a seconds once you get the recoil down .

so you clearly did not check enough there are about 2-3 dozen streamers who are in that skill gap. there are hundreds who don't that are.

i have picked off people with 300m hs's with a m249 in a split second with a x8 scope does that make me a hacker now too? there are people beyond decent because it's all they do.

as for the ban you banned without any proof what so ever i don' t blame them calling you trash.

as for vac bans what a lot seem to forget is you can get a vacban now days for using a simple mouse that has macro's without using them via being detected which is not a hack . there are also a lot of old vac bans that never got lifted on rust from over a year ago because FP messed up. same with other games.

and hours do tend to mean something with rust. because someone with 3k+ hours is very likely going to be decent or good or better.

i ran into people though with 1k who can't even shoot a bow or a gun and claim hacks all because there reactions are to slow. i have reaction times that are split second where i'm able to do  stuff others can't where they can have the drop but i have the accuracy and reaction time to counter. does not make me or anyone a hacker...do some research next time...

As for experience...i have one from 4 days ago with someone ESPing and was made clear VIA finding me 3 times across the map almost instantly . i'd spawn in..30sec later someone flys in while im tabbed in a bush under a tree no way to see me period at night...boom im dead..so i respawned still nightime 3k away from last location i sat under a cliff in the rocks that had a spot hanging a giant rock formation above me no way anyone could see me there  in a corner tabbed out..2 minutes later im dead same guy... i then spawned in took a TP to town  and hid in a raided base..im dead same guy after about 5-7 minutes . now that is hacking. was it a admin no? cause the one that was on was the only one... and when i reported it he needed proof. so i left.

As for my own server experiences..i had a few who were hacking. one that my husband caught and we banned and the group he was with was not hacking but others knew the guy was and reporting it. we  looked into it caught him he tried to say he wasent when we said sure i guess shooting through walls is not hacking while not looking at the person and snapping 180 meter when a admin is invisible and trying to shoot us is not hacking? boom the group all instantly left and he left the discord...

want a good example of hjune though? here ya go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od6vjkFv600

Great explanation. Will take it as an advice although its very sour.

Guess we have to bear with it then. Sadly.

I've been running various gaming communities for 20+ years and if there's one thing I've learned about discipline it's that you should trust your own judgement. Facepunch can't help you make your decisions on your server, that's up to you.

People will constantly demand "proof" from you. You don't have to provide it, and in fact in most cases you SHOULDN'T provide it even if you can, because all it does is give them information they can use to cheat better the next time. It's your community, you decide who has the PRIVILEGE to play on YOUR SERVER. You can ban people for no reason at all if you like, you don't owe anyone explanations.

Always bear in mind that your responsibility is to the well behaved players who you want to keep on your server - these people will respect you for taking a hard line against undesirables, for whatever reasons you see fit. In the rare cases that they think you made a mistake you'll be able to have a calm, rational discussion about it with them.

As for the opinions of the banned players, who cares? F*** 'em!

Trash calling me trash has never bothered me, it just makes me glad I got rid of them in the first place.

id ban chinese players within a min if they are reported for the simple fact they are well known for cheating and its part of their culture to cheat.
Now call that Discrimination @Hunted5
As admin its a very fine line when banning players as a lot of people report players when lose a fight and the salt sets in.
But before i would even ban anyone they would be watched very closely.

Nice, going to heed this advice about providing proof.
