DDoS protection for server?

Is there a way to protect a home server from DDoS attacks? How exactly does Cloudflare work?

Cloudflare is only for websites as i know

Cloudflare, as far as I know, has game server protection but only for companies

Cloudflare is only for websites as i know
You can actually funnel any services you want that run on the ports they support, but only TCP. I've ran TCP servers through it before such as Minecraft, but it was a bit delayed. I believe CloudFlare offers services now though for anything really.
