So I installed Oxide in my hurtworld server but when I start it up its says "couldn't connect version older".
I know that means I have to update oxide but I don't know how to do it without possibly breaking it.
Maybe you could help me out?

Which version of Hurtworld are you trying to setup? The default download on our site is for the release version of Hurtworld, so if you need itemv2, you need to install the itemv2 build. It's also possible that your host may be supplying an old build of Oxide, so you may want to check with them.

The version of the server is v51

That isn't an actual version number for Hurtworld. The latest Hurtworld release version is 0.3.8.9, and the itemv2 version is 0.6.4.1. These versions will show in your server log files, server console (if you have access to that), and the 'version' command.

v51 is not even the latest legacy version, current legacy version is 53 and it was updated last time probably 2 years ago. I think you are using some type of old backup. I would suggest downloading at least the latest legacy version.
