Plugin denied, clarification?Solved

Hi

Why did you deny my plugin (Vote Kick 2) with "Not original author"? I just passed a whole day coding it, so I'm very sure I am the original author.

It is loosely based on another plugin (Skip Night), which serves a totally different usage and is licensed under MIT, so I am allowed to use part of that code.

Or do I need to choose a totally different name because there is another plugin called "Vote Kick"?

Thx in advance

I saw “loosely based on” and a copyright for another, so it would need to be compared for copied code of it were to continue. You would need a unique name as well.

The licenses for plugins here are primarily for continuation, not for them to be copied or modified and resubmitted. Generally we would encourage contributing to existing with the same functionality or seeking approval from the existing plugin developer of the original before openly copying parts of their plugin.

Ok, I'll come up with another name (though hard for this sort of plugin :( ).

But concerning the copied code, the other plugin is under MIT license, so I don't see where would be the problem, cause the license allows me to copy / modify / use the code as long as I leave the copyright info in there, which I did.

Right, like I said, the license is more of a formality to allow continuation of it should the original author not want to. Some authors do not mind copying portions, but we tend to not approve forks/copies/modified versions of existing plugins, as it often steps on toes of the original developer and adds a potentially unnecessary plugin with the same functionality. I pinged the original author though, if he'd like to weigh in on his feelings.

Alright, thx. Please also feel free to give him access to my source file if he wants to check for similarities.
