False positive death note, no weapon, crazy distance, no kill

I noticed something pretty bizarre.

A player on my server got the following death note

[Death Notes] [blob] ChR!ShAnS3n poked holes in the Scientist's body with their until he died at 4443.3 meters.​​
  • It didn't show a weapon
  • They didn't kill a scientist 
  • The distance is 4443.3, the map is 4500

@LaserHydra Same here! Got a message, that i killed a Scientist with a distance over 5800 mtr! I was doing nothing the last 5 minutes... Please fix.

This happens extremely rarely, maybe one time in a thousand, it's not a major problem.

Not even trying to pretend I know what I am talking about, but often the case with these is that you were the last one to do damage to them until they dissappear (as in are removed by the system) for example Chinook scientists fly off th map, if you shoot one once they count as your kill when they dissappear. 

Not saying it not a bug, but in most cases it more of a "whatever" type of thing and a good laugh.

When this does happen to me, while not especially frequent, it's a real pain because I keep stats, and kits are awarded for long-distance kills. This results in someone getting a kit they didn't deserve, stats they didn't earn, and I have to adjust a bunch of stuff manually to deal with the results. 

As for your post, it's located under a section called 'help'. That suggests, despite your opinion, it needs to be helpful to be valid. I, being the creator of this thread, suggest your post is not helpful and it seems reasonable for me to be the judge since I was the one who asked for help.

To close, this issue is infrequent as you suggested, but it's impactful to me when it happens. I'm not asking for the author to drop everything they're doing to address it, but to consider looking into it when they have time.

Not sure if this helps, as you prob wouldn't post this if it wasn't an issue, but none of the stat tracking mods I use (playerrankings, playerchallenges etc) do not record these super long ones. For some custom tracking I guess you could pretty easily just ignore any kill over 400m.

The thing here might be that it is not necessarily the Death Notes plugin that records the kill, it might just report on it. (I don't know enough to say either or). So It couldnt even "fix" it. But yeah, I wouldnt mind for the Death Notes to ignore long kills. I remember some mod having option for that earlier
