I have better loot set up and the data loottable.json set and i have the max and min on barrels and others items set but it is always the default number of items in each instead of what i have set.
Vanilla loot not being overridden
AFAIK betterloot is doing just fine. Make sure you have setup right cfg, that you have no other loot plugins, restart the server.
I'm actually having what I think is the same issue. Basically All I usually see in the barrels are a few pieces of scrap and usually 1 other small item. It seems to have stopped working with the last patch update (last week) or maybe since the oxide update. Here's the message I see in console:

Mine is working with no problems,
you have to make sure that any changes you make to betterloot data file is done with the plugin unloaded or the server off
When you have completed the editing then you reload Betterloot/restart server,
Make sure your oxide and steam files are up to date,

OK. So I'm going with this advice. I went ahead and wiped the dta and config files and reinstalled everything. I'll be testing it out today so if there's something more I\ll report back.
One question though - I had not touched the config (or data) in about 3 months. Does it happen often that these files become corrupted?
