why can i not get bbetter chat to have a decent lenght?

the config i change to 300, 400, even 800 and see Zero chance at all

this makes it so no one can really type much at all and its restrictive. what is the way to make chants a little longer? at least Double or tripple of that tiny restrictive amount it lets us type
