Sounds like you may have multiple chat plugins installed.
I have betterchat, betterchatmute and betterchatfilter
that is all i have for the chat :)

mine is working as normal with the same plugins installed
No Green, UFilter, etc. are also chat plugins. Anything that modifies what you see in the chat. No Green is the most common one, which does not work with Better Chat.
