After player death, items from backpack are gone

This has been happening on and off for the past 3 months. Not all the time, but it has happened to me a couple times, and to a couple players have reported this to me as well.

All items or some items?

Any errors in the logs?

Unless the backpack is dropping when the player dies, I'm not sure of any reason that items would be removed from the backpack. The. Backpack is basically just a storage container below the map that only the owner (or admins) can remotely open. Player death doesn't inherently have any relation to that container.

The times that it has happened it was all the items in the backpack. I checked the oxide log today and I didnt see any errors for it. The player could of simply missed it when looking. It happened to me personally in december, and It happened last month to somebody as well.

Merged post

I just had some feeback of what was going on when it happened. I think I remember this happening to another player while near the train event or doing it. The player replied to me some info, that he was doing ArmoredTrain Event when it happened. "it was on train but i managed to get on train before it started moving.. its just that whatever was in backpack wasnt there anymore"

Thanks for the additional information.

I checked the code of Armored Train and see no mention of Backpacks, so that rules out whether it's directly interfering in some way (such as forcing the backpack to drop, which is possible for other plugins to do, sometimes done for PvP situations or Raidable Bases). I can't rule out indirect interference, but I can't imagine how that would work. It's not very easy for another plugin to incidently wipe the contents of a player's Backpack. If the issue consistently happens in relation to Armored Train, then we can take a closer look at that plugin and circumstances that tend to surround it.

As of now, I don't really have any ideas on how we can move the investigation forward.

Thank you! I will keep a eye on it, and try to get as much detail as I can. I do have RaidableBases plugin on, I will double check to see if it has settings to disallow backpack dropping. Do you think this would interfere outside of its raid-zones?

I doubt Raidable Bases would interfere with backpack dropping outside of its designated zones.

If you want to rule out whether backpack dropping is the cause of the missing items, you can follow the instructions in the following post to enable debug mode for drop-on-death functionality. The resulting logs will show you every time a backpack either drops or does not drop. If backpack contents go missing again, and there are no logs saying the backpack was dropped--even better, if you see logs saying the backpack was not dropped, at the time the items went missing--then we can safely say backpack dropping is not the cause, and then we can brainstorm/investigate other potential causes.
