Sure, I can look into this.

Since there have been many feature requests surrounding customization of the backpack button, and since that may never stop happening, I've decided to implement most of those features as an addon plugin, to allow people to continue to customize it and make alternative addon plugins if needed, without needing to change the core Backpacks plugin.

The plugin is currently pending review on the site, but you can see screenshots and a description of how it works at the link below.

At the moment, it requires Backpacks v3.11, for which I am hoping to release a beta in the next few days.
